A chaotic shootout unfolded in Florida, leaving an officer shot in the foot and the suspect dead. The incident occurred at a residence near Lem Turner Road in North Jacksonville. On March 12, shortly after 9:00 AM. Footage from the police officer’s body camera, along with nearby security footage, was shared online on March 30 by WorldStarHipHop.
The confrontation began when a police vehicle arrived behind a suspect’s car, which was parked in the driveway of a suburban home. Just as the suspect, who was reportedly wearing a bulletproof vest, is about to exit the car, the policeman orders the suspect to remain inside his vehicle.
Instead of complying, the suspect opened fire at the cop, triggering a rapid and intense exchange of gunshots. The officer is forced to retreat amid the shootout and radios in for backup. The officer’s voice carries a mix of urgency and alarm as he says, “Chevy six, six shots fired. Traffic: six shots fired. Trout River Lim Turner.” Moments later, the officer grimly announces, “I’ve been hit in my foot.”
According to the footage, he identifies the man as a Black male with a rifle. “Bravo, Mike. He’s got a rifle on the gun. I’m retreating back,” he said. The suspect’s weapon was later identified as a long-barreled rifle. When the suspect attempted to leave the vehicle, the officer, once again, discharged his weapon at the suspect. The officer also said the suspect may be injured.
At one point, an officer seemingly queries an onlooker, asking, “Where is he?” As the video continues, the suspect appears to have made it out of the car, prompting the policeman to adjust his strategy. A backup unit quickly arrives, and another police officer exits, leading them to coordinate their approach. The footage also captures the policeman’s bleeding foot.
According to First Coast News, the suspect was fatally shot while wearing the vest. The police reportedly recovered several guns from the suspect’s vehicle. The outlet also shared that the injured Jacksonville Sheriff’s officer was hospitalised.
The Florida shootout reportedly occurred after a traffic stop along Trout River Boulevard and Ribault Avenue. When the suspect was eventually apprehended, he was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
