A woman was kidnapped in Grange Hill, Westmoreland, by armed men on Thursday morning. However, within a few hours, the victim was rescued by the police, and the rescue operation left two of her alleged captors dead. According to reports, the woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was driving in her vehicle when she came upon a blocked road around 6 a.m.
Her path was blocked by a log placed across the street by the kidnappers. The woman stopped her car, which was when she was forcibly removed, blindfolded, and transported to a two-bedroom wooden house in Hanover, per the report.
The brazen abduction is believed to have been orchestrated from behind prison walls. According to Nationwide News, the kidnapping was coordinated by an incarcerated gang leader.
Acting on intelligence, officers launched a targeted rescue mission. What followed was a fierce exchange of gunfire that resulted in two of the woman’s suspected abductors being fatally shot.
The local news outlet reported that there was another man involved, but he escaped during the shootout. The man at large is reportedly known for producing violence. According to the report, the police said the woman was unharmed when they found her. Officers also recovered two firearms at the scene.
The successful operation has attracted many jubilant responses from locals, who praised the police’s swift action and bravery. Jamaicans on Instagram commended the efficiency of the officers involved. Many users applauded the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for what they described as a “US Marines-style” execution of the mission, calling it proof that recent investments in intelligence-driven policing are paying off.
One person commented, “Well done officers… well done.” Another said, “BIG UP TO THE JCF!” Several users also thanked God for the woman’s safe return. Others highlighted the significance of proactive policing in communities plagued by violence, urging continued support and resources for the force.
