The fire that started at about 1:15 this afternoon on Ashenheim Road in Kingston has been raging up to 5:41 p.m. The fire started at an Azan Supercenter warehouse, and many fire units battled the massive blaze that spread to several adjoining properties.
Several videos have been shared online, showing the inferno with intense flames consuming materials and producing thick, dark smoke that billows upwards. A report of the fire spreading to nearby properties was made by Superintendent Damion Manderson, Commanding Officer for the St. Andrew South Police, during a Nationwide News interview.
An eyewitness also reported that a man was trapped inside the burning Azan warehouse, and he rushed to help when he heard the man screaming for help. Despite the heat from the flames burning him, he was determined to rescue the man, who was being burnt by the flames. The man was saved when the eyewitness managed to “haul him out” through a window.
It is unclear what started the fire, but another eyewitness claimed she heard talks of it being caused by fire on the light post.
