Jamaican reggae star Koffee is officially back with a new single that has people buzzing. The Toast hitmaker teased a song on TikTok with a strong message that seemingly hints at the reason for her two-year hiatus.
Recently, she clued fans in on the preview when she returned to social media with a post directing supporters to keep an eye on her TikTok account on Wednesday.
Staying true to her word, she dropped a video of herself relaxing in a car while singing a groovy new track focusing on self-improvement. In the lyrics, she expresses, “I’m trying to be a better me, not the way you remember me. I left that in the cemetery; that side of me is dead.” As she continues, she sings about banishing bad thoughts and burning Babylon.
In the caption of the TikTok post, she reiterates that she is trying to be a better version of herself. The title and release date of the song were not disclosed. The song was reshared by Promise Land Records, the label that Koffee is signed to.

The public’s reception of the song has been positive, with many fans excited about her return. Her hiatus followed her collaboration with English singer Sam Smith and Canadian singer Jessie Reyez on the song Gimme. The collab marked Koffee’s effort to expand her brand internationally, but things went awry when she started garnering backlash from her home country.

Jamaica is predominantly a homophobic country, and Sam Smith is known to be homosexual. Koffee did not respond to the outpouring of criticism, but Gimme, which dropped on January 13, 2023, is apparently the last released song she is on.
Koffee, born Mikayla Victoria Simpson, is considered a promising reggae artiste. Her infectious songs took the music scene by storm, earning her a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album with her 2020 project Rapture. Her historic Grammy win made her the youngest female artist to win in the category. She rose to stardom while in her teens by making conscious, uplifting music that resonated with fans.
