Two teenagers believed to be around 16 years old attempted to rob a convenience store in Gardena, California, and ended up getting shot by a security guard. Footage of the incident was shared on X on Monday and has since gone viral, amassing over 275,000 views.
According to the released footage, one of the teens was dressed in a black sweater and the other in a blue sweater when they entered the 7-Eleven. In a swift move, the teen in the blue sweater jumps over the counter, with his accomplice in the black sweater following closely behind. Brandishing what appear to be firearms, they order the store clerk at gunpoint while one of them seemingly attempts to grab money from the register.
Shortly after, a security guard enters the store and, upon seeing the suspects, discharges his gun. The security guard immediately fires shots first at the teen in the blue sweater and then at the teen in the black sweater. The teens can be heard exclaiming, “It’s fake,” referring to the weapons they have.
The guard retorted sharply, “Oh well, mine is real,” while holding them at gunpoint. The footage shows the guard leaping over the counter, ordering the suspects to drop their makeshift weapons and get on the ground.
It appears that the teen in the blue sweater sustained a wound to his arm, as blood can be seen along the sleeve of his sweater. According to the details shared on social media, both suspects received non-life-threatening injuries and were apprehended. Authorities have charged the two with robbery, and they were initially held without bail. However, according to information circulating on X, the teens were later released pending further legal proceedings.
Reactions to the incident have flooded social media. One viewer remarked humorously, “I love how this guy was like, ‘damn all I wanted was a slushy and now I gotta deal with these a-holes’ Lol.” Another commenter, The Fact Checker, tweeted, “The digging in his pocket at the beginning is hilarious.” In a show of support, Ali | The Sigma Trader wrote, “I’m ready to buy security guard a drink or 10,” while Bobby posted, “You should just let them have the money, no need to shoot.”
