Freedom Street is a trending topic on social media, as internet users react to the most memorable moments of the New Year’s Eve event. Amid the wave of positive responses comes a controversy involving Dancehall artiste Popcaan and promoter Skatta Burrell.
At Freedom Street, deejays Popcaan and Chronic Law were forced to wait three hours outside before they could perform. When the pair finally took the stage, they expressed their frustration. Chronic Law urged the CEO of Downsound Entertainment Josef “Joe” Bogdanovich and Skatta, who was one of the event organisers, to behave themselves. He reminded them that they were only present to support Vybz Kartel.
“We deh yah so fi Vybz Kartel, mi a talk straight. We nuh deh yah so fi nuh white bwoy or nuh rasta bwoy. Mi a badman, mi nuh like people… Skatta behave yuh hear? Joe behave yuh bombocl**t self,” Chronic Law stated.

Popcaan, on the other hand, told Skatta about his mother and told him that he only remained at the event because it was Vybz Kartel’s concert. “Skatta, suck yuh madda yute. If a neva Kartel mi gaw mi yard,” he said.

The disrespectful remark made Skatta upset, and Vybz Kartel reportedly tried to de-escalate the situation. According to online users, a clip of Vybz Kartel speaking to Skatta and attempting to retrieve a microphone was when he stepped in to prevent the situation from getting worse. The clip also shows him patting Skatta on the shoulder and laughing.

While Skatta held his composure at the event, he wasted no time to address the situation after the event was over. A video of Skatta speaking on the matter is circulating on social media. During the video, he indicated that his mother was hospitalised and he would not let the blatant disrespect slide.
He expressed that he was in a dilemma because he wanted to address the disrespect at the event, but it would have ruined the show. He also indicated that he is the type to take public disrespect and retaliate later in private.

However, Popcaan fearlessly clapped back by telling the promoter about his mother again in a post on the social media platform X. Popcaan indicated that no one could physically assault him without being killed instantly.
