Skeletal bones discovered on a Portmore, St. Catherine beach on Saturday are thought to belong to Anisa Dilworth, a University of Technology (UTECH) student who went missing on Wednesday, May 7, according to police.
The St. Catherine South Police say they were notified of the finding of bone remains at the beach at around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and went to look into it. Investigators suspect the remains belong to Dilworth based on evidence collected at the scene, but definitive identification is pending forensic analysis, the police said.
Superintendent Leighton Grey, the commanding officer for St. Catherine South, had previously said that he was unable to verify that the body the police discovered belonged to Dilworth and that it was unlikely to be the missing student’s because it was little in stature.
The circumstances surrounding Dilworth’s disappearance and the bones’ finding are still being investigated. According to the police, detectives are currently following up on a number of leads.
In relation to the student’s disappearance, an inDrive cab driver has been arrested and is being questioned.
The JCF is asking anyone with information that could help with the investigation to call the closest police station, the National Intelligence Bureau at 811, Crime Stop at 311, or the Criminal Investigations Branch at 876-929-9256.
