Police are now investigating a road rage incident in Kingston after a man was seen physically assaulting a driver while brandishing a firearm in a busy street. The incident unfolded along Constant Spring Road near the Oakland Apartment and was caught on camera.
Reports say that the altercation began after a collision between a grey SUV and a white Toyota Probox. It is alleged that the Probox driver hit the SUV but continued driving. The SUV driver then began to chase the Probox through traffic.
The altercation occurred after the pursuit ended with the SUV cornering the Probox.
One of the circulating videos shows what appears to be a car chase. The Probox can be seen swiftly navigating traffic, and the person filming comments that the driver visibly has no intention of stopping.
A separate clip shows a man, believed to be the driver of the SUV, approaching the Probox. He is captured jumping onto the hood of a vehicle before confronting the other driver with a firearm in his hand. Moments later, he strikes the man across the face, and as the Probox driver appears to react, the armed man raises his weapon, pointing it directly at him.
It is understood that the man seen holding the firearm is reportedly a member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF). Police have confirmed that they are examining this aspect as part of their investigation. According to a report, the entire incident seemed to occur in plain sight of a policeman, though it remains unclear whether any immediate action was taken at the scene.
After the videos went viral, the St Andrew North Police Division acknowledged that it is aware of the footage and has launched a formal investigation into the matter. However, it is not yet confirmed whether an official report has been filed by either party involved in the incident.
