A woman from South Carolina is accused of stabbing her baby to death with a metal letter opener seconds after giving birth. The mother, identified as 31-year-old An T. Ngo, allegedly stuffed her deceased baby into a garbage bag.
On March 7, Ngo gave birth to a boy in her apartment complex in the city of Easley, per reports. Fox Carolina cited the Easley Police Department, which said immediately after Ngo pushed out her baby, she allegedly used a metal letter opener to cut the umbilical cord before she started stabbing her baby with the object. The South Carolina mother reportedly stabbed the baby repeatedly until the boy died.

The report stated that Ngo put the infant’s bloody body in a trash bag. Ngo’s boyfriend called the police, but it is unclear if he was at the apartment when the baby was murdered.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found the newborn inside the trash bag with severe injuries. The bag was placed just outside of a room that Ngo was in. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
Easley Police Chief Brandon Liner expressed in a press conference on Wednesday that he has been on the force for more than two decades, and he has never witnessed “anything this gruesome.”

“I have never seen anything this gruesome. I’ve never seen anything this bad,” he said. He added that “it was very apparent that Miss Ngo is the one who tragically murdered this child.” Liner vowed that the baby would receive justice for having his life cut extremely short by his mother.
Ngo has been charged with homicide by child abuse. When the police found her in the apartment, she was transported to the hospital. She received medical treatment and was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday. Ngo was immediately arrested and charged upon her release. She has since been denied bail.
