A disturbing video has gone viral of a man physically assaulting a nurse along Mount Airy Main Road in St Andrew on Tuesday. The video, shared on Thursday, has sparked outrage online, leading to the man being detained by police.
The altercation captured in the video reportedly stems from road rage. According to a local news report, the man allegedly attacked the nurse shortly after 7 p.m. in an area that is usually peaceful.
According to a witness, the nurse, dressed in her uniform, was on her way to work when she was manhandled by another driver. The heated exchange between the drivers, both familiar faces in the neighbourhood, captured the attention of other motorists, some of whom attempted to intervene.
In the video, filmed by an onlooker, the man yanks the woman from her vehicle and proceeds to assault her. “He took her out [of the] car, and he started manhandling her,” one observer told The Gleaner.

The pair tussle and she is seemingly thrown to the ground at one point. During the melee, the footage also captures him holding a small object, believed to be a firearm. The report, citing a witness, stated that the object fell to the ground, and a bystander retrieved it and returned it to the man.
Another clip, which has left viewers fuming, shows holding the alleged weapon while stepping on the nurse’s head. Others nearby consistently implored him to stop.
St Andrew North Criminal Investigations Branch has opened a formal probe, and a senior officer confirmed that the man remains in police custody while detectives piece together the full sequence of events.
Social media erupted with outrage over the video, with users demanding justice and condemning the act of violence. Some comments called for him to be arrested, and many others also voiced concern about the widespread problem of violence against women in Jamaica.
