A quiet night outside a salsa club in Bastión Popular, Ecuador, turned into a chaotic scene when a group of gunmen opened fire at patrons, leaving one woman dead and eight others injured. The attack happened just before midnight on Thursday, May 29, and was caught on a security camera from the venue.
The circulating footage shows several people gathered outside the club before the incident. Patrons are seated and chatting over drinks when a group of masked men appear. The assailants began firing at the crowd, causing panic to spread.
Patrons rushed inside for cover, but one woman was seen falling to the ground before being shot several times at close range. Following the shooting, the assailants fled the scene and remain at large.
An onlooker at the scene recorded the gruesome aftermath of the deadly shooting incident. Several people were captured on the ground attending to someone, and the distressful cries of patrons filled the background. The onlooker also filmed a body lying in a pool of blood.
Reports say she died on the sidewalk. Officials have not yet disclosed the names of the victims. However, it was confirmed in a report that most of the other victims were Venezuelan nationals.
The club is located directly across from California Park, a popular area that has recently seen a spike in violence. Following the incident, officers from the National Police arrived to cordon off the area, recover the woman’s body, and begin collecting evidence. Although they gathered several bullet casings, some remained lodged in the club’s metal shutters.
This marks the twelfth murder in the Pascuales district within a week. Since the beginning of 2025, there have been over 185 crimes reported in the area, including the recent shooting.
According to reports, authorities have not yet released details on the motive behind the shooting and continue to investigate the incident.
