A video of a violent incident involving a taxi operator and a JUTC bus has surfaced online. The pair was travelling along the Half-Way Tree Road on Tuesday afternoon when the taxi operator allegedly lost his temper and vandalised the Jamaican Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus. The Jamaica Observer reported that a witness, who was travelling on the bus, said the road rage incident began when the taxi driver pulled up to a bus stop to pick up passengers.
According to the passenger, the JUTC bus arrived shortly after and also pulled in to collect commuters. When the bus driver reportedly did not immediately allow the taxi, a Toyota Probox, to merge back into traffic, the taxi driver reportedly became violent.
The passenger said that the visibly angry taxi driver exited his vehicle and began striking the bus. Video footage shows him using his hands to hit the bus door repeatedly. The passengers can be heard urging the bus driver to leave and when it begins to move away, the driver strikes the bus forcefully again. This time, a window reportedly shattered upon impact.
The shocking scene played out in broad daylight and was witnessed by multiple passengers onboard the JUTC bus, one of whom was filming. The driver, after the confrontation, reportedly returned to his car and, moments later, crashed into another vehicle.
Another road rage video went viral in May when 65-year-old businessman Robert Bell allegedly assaulted a nurse. That confrontation, which also began over a traffic dispute, led to Bell being hit with a slew of charges, including assault occasioning bodily harm and possession of a firearm with intent to cause injury.
Reports say that the nurse was heading to work in her car on May 13 when she came upon Bell’s vehicle, which was allegedly causing a traffic jam. When she allegedly attempted to signal him to move his vehicle, a dispute erupted that turned physical when Bell, who was carrying a licensed firearm, exited his car. He was caught on camera striking her and stepping on her head, while onlookers protested.
