A Tennessee security guard was in a shootout with a gunman who opened fire at a group of people at a club. The shooting incident was captured on surveillance camera, showing the explosive standoff from the guard’s perspective.
The shootout occurred on January 26, shortly after 2 a.m. in the city of Chattanooga when a group of clubgoers was targeted just outside Dream nightclub in the parking lot. According to a report, the 24-year-old mass shooter ran up to the crowd with a handgun.
A security guard acted quickly, blasting an assault rifle at the gunman. The report stated that the guard was seemingly wearing body armour.
In the footage, he is seen calmly firing his weapon while the clubgoers cower behind him on the ground. For a brief moment, he ceases fire to locate the shooter and resumes firing. The security fired about two dozen rounds at the mass shooter.
The gunman was wounded in the crossfire and fled the scene. None of the clubgoers sustained any injuries, per the report. The guard was praised by the club owner, JaMichael Smith, for protecting the attendees.
The gunman was later arrested when he showed up at the hospital to get treated for his injury.
There have been several shooting incidents at the nightclub in recent months, including a standoff between customers that led to a 22-year-old being injured in December. Another shooting in the city claimed the life of a man outside a bar in 2023.
In 2022, six teenagers were injured in a shootout in the city, and another nightclub was the scene of a shooting incident that claimed the lives of three people and left 14 wounded.
