A toddler died from electrocution after encountering live wires on the ground of his Westmoreland home on Sunday, September 22, 2025. The incident happened in the Nile district, where three-year-old Tamani Flemmings was at home with his mother and siblings.
Reports indicate that around 9 a.m., the child went outside to play and became entangled with electrical wires on the ground. After he was electrocuted, he was rushed to the Savannah-la-Mar Hospital for medical attention, but he succumbed to his injuries. Reports say he sustained severe burn injuries along his neck and face.
Tamani’s family is now grappling with grief after the horrifying incident. On Monday morning, which should have been an ordinary school day, relatives were instead faced with funeral preparations.
According to a report, when reporters from TVJ News visited the family’s home, the grief was evident. The boy’s mother, a teacher, was too distraught to speak publicly and asked for privacy as she tried to process the loss.
In an emotional show of support, her colleagues gathered and held a worship session, offering prayers and comfort to the grieving household.
The Savannah-la-Mar Criminal Investigation Branch has launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators are working to establish how the live wires came to be on the ground. However, the police have so far classified the case as death by misadventure. This rules out that the child’s death was caused by an act of negligence, which would have led to the parent being arrested and charged for the incident.
The tragedy has had a noticeable impact on the wider community, with the loss of young Tamani casting a shadow of sorrow across the Nile district and beyond. Following the news of his passing, Jamaicans took to online platforms to express condolences and offer words of comfort to the grieving family.
