Jamaican TikTok personality Annie has sparked concern among followers after shaving off her hair during an emotional livestream over the weekend, as she opened up about her ongoing struggles with depression.
During the broadcast, Annie appeared visibly upset and in tears as she took a pair of scissors and began cutting off sections of her hair before eventually shaving it down. The moment quickly spread across social media, with many viewers expressing worry about her mental and emotional well-being.
Following the dramatic moment, Annie addressed her supporters and reassured them that the transformation was not connected to any intention of harming herself. While speaking candidly about her mental state, she admitted that she sometimes experiences thoughts about harming herself but insisted that she is strong enough not to act on those feelings.
She emphasised that shaving her head was not an attempt to hurt herself but rather part of a personal emotional moment she was going through. The incident has drawn comparisons online to other Jamaican TikTok personalities who previously shaved their heads during difficult periods in their lives. Annie now marks the third creator to do so publicly.
Her daughter, Anna, previously cut her hair very low during a troubling time, while fellow content creator Brittany Goffe shaved her head completely before later being hospitalised for mental health treatment. Goffe has since been released and continues receiving care.
Because of those past situations, some social media users have expressed fear that Annie may be heading down a similar path. Several supporters have urged others online to offer her encouragement and even financial assistance so she can focus on improving her situation.
After cutting her hair, Annie also spoke about wanting to visit her mother’s grave, a wish she repeated multiple times during livestreams up to Monday. According to her, she feels she has unfinished business with her late mother and wants the opportunity to speak to her.
She shared that she misses her mother deeply and believes she now understands many of the decisions her mother made when she was younger. Annie explained that as a child, she often blamed her mother for abandoning her at certain points in her life. She recalled occasions when she said her mother left her in different places before her father stepped in to care for her.
According to Annie, her father struggled but did his best to raise her, and she also spent time living with her stepmother. She said she carried resentment toward her mother for years and did not reconnect with her until she was about 16 years old.
The emotional revelations come shortly after turmoil in Annie’s personal life, including the collapse of her relationship with a man known online as Yankee. Their split became highly publicised after Annie shared a private video involving him and accused him of being bisexual. She also suggested that ongoing tension within her family and conflicts with some members of her community have contributed to her emotional distress.
Despite the concerns expressed by many viewers, others on social media have questioned whether Annie’s breakdown is genuine. Some critics believe the incident may have been staged to boost her visibility on TikTok, where creators often compete for rankings and financial gifts during livestreams.
According to online observers, Annie reportedly climbed high in the platform’s rankings following the incident and is said to have earned more than JM$60,000 within roughly two hours.
Some users have pointed out that she appears happier in recent broadcasts and have accused her of exaggerating the situation for attention. A few fellow TikTok creators have also voiced scepticism about her claims.
Annie, however, responded to the criticism by saying she refuses to let negative comments break her spirit. She said the backlash has only motivated her to stay strong and continue pushing forward, noting that some people online seem more interested in worsening another person’s depression rather than offering support.
