TikToker Jakes and dancehall veteran General B are going at each other on social media, with Jakes openly accusing the artiste of clout chasing and taking credit for things he did not contribute to.
In a TikTok live stream, Jakes addressed his frustrations directly, saying he was tired of hearing his name tie/d to what he called “false accusations”. He said that when General B visited him, the entertainer spoke to him about music. “The only reason why you come a Seaview deh day deh is fi try ride offa mi clout,” Jakes declared, stressing that his foundation and projects were not financially supported by the artiste.
He accused General B of seeking recognition through media interviews while offering no real assistance, not even physical labour. He told him that if he wanted to get credit for the project, he should actually do something to earn the credit.
Jakes spoke out in reference to a Jamaica Star article that connected General B’s name to his housing project. He said the article, titled “General B, good Samaritans helping Jakes build a home,” needed to be removed or adjusted instantly. Inside the article, it says that “the artiste clarified that he’s not responsible for funding the materials for the building of the house.”
It said that General B took credit for overseeing “the operations” and the “spontaneous spending on the grounds.” The artiste also said he helped with a “flood of new gifters (TikTok supporters)” who donated a lot of money to Jakes through his platform. According to Jakes, the veteran entertainer was only seeking the spotlight, insisting that General B was trying to benefit from the buzz around his name.
General B, however, quickly defended himself in a separate recording, dismissing the claim that he was trying to steal credit. He pointed out that the newspaper piece was being misread. “Reading is very fundamental… Dem seh, ‘General B’, with a comma, and den dem seh ‘good samaritans helping Jakes with a home,” he explained, adding that the article clarified he was not funding materials but was supporting the movement in other ways.
The entertainer indicated that Jakes was being disrespectful and acting immature. He also shared that the newspaper reached out to him after seeing the video with him and Jaks. He also described his involvement as more about visibility and encouragement. “They just ask me to be the face of the whole movement, make myself present on location,” he said.
