A group of tourists vacationing in Jamaica have accused two teenage girls of repeatedly stealing from their rented Airbnb in Montego Bay, St James. According to a woman from Minnesota, who filmed the confrontation, the group had been staying at the property Ironshore for three days when items began disappearing. She claimed the thefts happened over multiple days, with the intruders returning each time to take more belongings.
The woman alleged the girls, ages 16 and 17, had access to spare keys and were nieces of the Airbnb’s owner, questioning why the owner would give them an extra set.
She recounted that after returning from an excursion, the group found the property locked with a bolt. When they knocked persistently, the girls eventually opened the door but then ran to hide under a bed. Initially, the teens allegedly claimed that two masked men had entered and stolen the items. However, one later accused the other of being the main thief, saying she had only tagged along.
The woman promised not to harm them if they returned the stolen property. Eventually, the girl accused of being the main culprit led them to a hiding spot where some items had been stashed. Missing goods reportedly included shoes, clothes, ID, and bank cards.
In a later update, the tourist said Airbnb agreed to reimburse the money they had paid for the stay, though she remained uncertain about recovering the missing items, such as IDs and bank cards that were not found in the stash. She also revealed she had to cancel her bank cards and her return flight after losing her identification.
Following suggestions from social media viewers, the woman contacted the U.S. Embassy but said they had not taken action. At the time of her statement, the group had not yet reported the incident to the police.
