A man confessed to fatally stabbing his two children after their bodies were discovered during a search operation. The toddlers, ages one and three, were reported missing to the St Ann police on Tuesday night after their mother arrived at the father’s house in the Swamp district of Moneague.
Shortly before she became aware of the children’s absence, she noticed the father acting strangely. According to reports, the mother discovered bloodstains in the areas where the two boys had been sleeping.
Alarmed by the unusual behaviour and the state of the home, she immediately contacted the authorities. The Jamaica Constabulary Force, with support from the Jamaica Defence Force and their canine division, launched a thorough search that extended throughout the surrounding area, deploying drones and search dogs to assist in locating the missing toddlers.
When the police arrived, they found the father in a semi-conscious state outside the home, according to a report. During the search, the bodies were found behind the house they resided in. A separate report detailed that one child was found in a nearby lake while the other was discovered inside an unfinished concrete structure.
Following the discovery of the bodies, the father reportedly turned up at a police station and confessed to killing the children. Nationwide news reports indicate that no clear motive has been established for the killings, though authorities noted that the man may have consumed a ganja-infused tea earlier in the day.
An update on the incident revealed that the children were stabbed to death. Police confirmed that the suspect was only the biological father of the one-year-old. The three-year-old was a stepson he cared for.
The father remains in custody, and police continue to gather evidence to understand the full circumstances surrounding this devastating incident. There is no report yet on him being charged for the double homicide.
