A man was killed during a street domino game on Sunday night in New Jersey. Security footage of the murder, which police say occurred during an attempted robbery, has been released online.
In the footage, a group of 6 men are gathered outside, and 4 of them are seated as they participate in the game. A child is also seated near the men when three suspects run towards them. The masked suspects were dressed in black, and at least two of them were armed.
One of the men from the group quickly took the child away from the scene while one of the armed suspects got into a tussle with the victim, who was wearing a red hat and white shirt. An accomplice discharged his weapon twice at the man, and they fled the scene, leaving the victim on the ground.
According to USA Crime, Paterson police responded to reports of gunshots at the intersection of Lafayette Street and Rosa Parks Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. Officers found shell casings strewn over the sidewalk and a man with a gunshot wound when they arrived. A short while after being taken to St Joseph’s University Medical Centre, the victim was declared dead.
USA Crime reported that the preliminary investigation indicated that a suspect approached the victim while they were playing dominoes on the sidewalk with a group of males. The suspect reportedly announced it was a robbery and later shot the victim twice.
The report said the suspect, who has not yet been identified, escaped the area and is still at large. The incident came on the heels of a separate violent shooting in the city that night.
Paterson police, in collaboration with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, are actively investigating the murder. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring justice for the victim and his family.
