A group of American policemen are facing backlash after a video was shared online showing how a woman was thrown to the sidewalk by an officer while his colleagues watched. The incident was captured on the body cam of a deputy and was shared on Instagram on Friday.
In the video, a deputy hands the woman what appears to be documents in a Ziploc bag and says, “Here’s your stuff.” He is accompanied by multiple officers as he pushes her down a corridor towards a door while saying, “Start walking this way.”
The woman walks along and shakes off the policeman’s hand while telling him not to push her, which leads to the policeman telling her to “shut the f**k up.” The officer’s response shocks the woman, and he continues to push her.
The woman repeatedly questions what the policeman is doing, and an officer responds by saying that they are escorting her outside because she would not leave peacefully. According to the deputy, the woman assaulted an officer, which prompted him to forcefully remove her from the premises.
“We’re escorting you outside because you can’t go without assaulting my partner,” an officer said. The woman seems confused about assaulting the officer and questions the deputy about it. The deputy confirms with her that she assaulted his partner, and as they continue to walk, she indicates that the deputy’s actions are “terrible.”
The woman threatens to report the deputy to the FBI, and moments later another officer seemingly tells her to have a “good night” before the deputy shoves her onto the sidewalk as soon as they reach the door. The woman falls to the ground and groans while all the officers return inside.
When the video was shared by the Daily Mail, Instagram users criticised the deputies and accused them of lying that the woman assaulted another police. The viewers argued that she would have been arrested if she had assaulted another deputy.
One viewer said, “I don’t understand if she really did assault a police officer, then why was she not charged? The police are not above the law; they don’t hand out punishment; that’s for the courts to do.” Another commented, “He deserves to lose his job. He’s not enforcing the law; he’s abusing it.”
