Many Jamaicans and Gaza fans were rooting for dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel to take home the Grammy Award for the Best Reggae Album category.
Vybz Kartel’s Party With Me album was nominated alongside Shenseea’s Never Gets Late Here, Collie Buddz’s Take It Easy, The Wailers for Evolution, and multiple artists for One Love: Music Inspired By The Film (Deluxe), which won the 2025 Grammy award.
This prompted many social media users to share their disappointment. Vybz Kartel has recently shared his thoughts on the matter, expressing he should have won the award.
In a newly released interview with Drink Champs, Vybz Kartel is asked if he should have won the Grammy, and he gives an affirmative response and indicates that Bob Marley already has many Grammys. He goes on to acknowledge that the reggae legend is the number 1 artist in the “Jamaican Universe” and references his undefeatable position at the top of the iTunes chart.
Vybz Kartel also noted that his life story of spending 13 years in prison, getting a Grammy nomination for an album released behind bars, being freed, getting a US visa, and walking the red carpet makes him the perfect winner.
Additionally, he indicated that he is not bitter over the loss because he lost to a legend, whom he feels is the only one he could have lost to.
