Over the weekend, Nicki Minaj shocked many Jamaicans when she announced that she was a fan of Dancehall artist Alkaline. This did not sit well with the fans of Vybz Kartel. The Trinidadian rapper expressed her love for his music, noting that she was recently introduced to his songs.
The announcement was shared in her Instagram Stories, where she repeatedly shared Alkaline’s single One More Time. While endorsing his music, the Queen of Rap indicated that she was dancing to his songs and would show the world “what a VENDETTA looks like.”
She wrote, “Ungrateful ppl mi nuh too rate dem. Don’t sell your soul.”
Nicki Minaj has since revealed to be following the deejay on Instagram, solidifying her admiration of him. Nicki Minaj also follows Vybz Kartel, whom she has endorsed countless times in the past.
Vybz Kartel and Alkaline were rivals for several years. Although they have not thrown shade at each other in a long time, Vybz Kartel’s Gaza fanbase and Alkaline’s Vendetta fanbase have maintained the feud. Vybz Kartel addressed the feud in multiple interviews following his release from prison, stating that he has no issues with Alkaline. However, the Vendetta and Gaza fans remain strong rivals.
Since the posts were made, Vybz Kartel’s fans have been criticizing Nicki Minaj. Many fans have been speculating that she was switching sides because Vybz Kartel recently shared that he wants rapper Cardi B and Lil Kim to perform at his wedding. While Nicki Minaj feuded with Lil Kim in the past, she and Cardi B are still rivals. Their fanbases frequently go toe-to-toe with each other, and Cardi lashes out at Nicki’s fans on many occasions.
While some Instagram users defended Nicki Minaj, the Gaza fanbase dragged her for her comments. One Instagram user laughed at the situation, saying, “When the artist u rate bless up and invite the opps to his wedding.”
Another wrote, “So petty tho I’m guessing it’s because Katel chose Cardi on the one interview.”
