A female ice cream operator was killed when a car veered off the road and crashed into her just in front of her shop in downtown Kingston. The vehicle struck the vendor, 48-year-old Tamara Manning, on King Street on Saturday night (Valentine’s Day), according to reports.
According to reports, the incident occurred about 10:00 p.m. when Manning, a resident of Fletcher’s Land, was sitting on the sidewalk. She was just outside her ice cream shop when an approaching Mark X was suddenly struck by an oncoming car, a Probox. The impact caused the first vehicle to careen off the roadway. It drove up on the sidewalk and slammed into her, pinning her body to the shop’s wall behind her.
A nearby surveillance camera captured the incident, showing Manning sitting near another individual. When the collision occurred, it appeared to be caused by the second vehicle’s attempt to overtake the first car.
Immediately after the incident, people rushed to help her, but she was pinned against the wall for a few seconds until the wrecked vehicle reversed. When her body fell limp to the ground, she was quickly assisted by onlookers who came running from all directions after either seeing or hearing the crash.
The second footage was recorded by a witness and shows many people around her trying to help. There was seemingly panic and grief at the scene as some persons carefully removed her from the scene. Her body was lifted by residents and carried to a nearby vehicle. After some effort, she was placed into the vehicle and rushed to a hospital.
Reports say that when she arrived at the hospital, she was pronounced dead. The other individual she was sitting with narrowly escaped the collision, as no reports mention any injuries. The matter was reported to Kingston Central police, and an investigation into the collision has been launched.
