Scores were injured, some of whom are now fighting for their lives after a Ferris wheel suddenly gave way. Disaster struck during a fair in Uttar Pradesh, located in northern India, last Wednesday. Dozens were aboard the towering ride when it suddenly lost stability and collapsed to the ground.
Initial reports indicate that at least 30 people were hurt in the accident, with around 10 listed in critical condition. Many of those injured were women and children who had been on the attraction at the time it failed.

Footage of the incident has gone viral, showing the ride tilting to one side before it collapses. Screams fill the air as the large structure comes crashing down. Moments later, rescuers were at the chaotic scene trying to remove the victims from the site. Bystanders were also working desperately alongside them. Reports say a number of the riders were trapped under the rubble, all of whom were successfully saved in a long rescue operation.
Authorities believe the ride may have been carrying far more than it was designed to hold. Preliminary reports say that there were approximately 80 individuals on board. Witnesses also reported hearing unusual creaking noises early on. The matter was brought to the attention of the ride operator, but warning signs were ignored.

Emergency crews worked for nearly an hour to free those pinned under the debris, according to reports. After the victims were rescued, they were rushed to hospitals in ambulances. Officials confirmed that there were at least two children among the most seriously hurt individuals. There have been no reports of fatalities so far.
Preliminary findings point to possible structural weaknesses. It is alleged that the base of the Ferris wheel appeared to be unstable and poorly secured. Investigators are now examining whether negligence or safety violations contributed to the disaster.
