A well-known French streamer suddenly passed away during a live stream. Raphaël Graven, better known online as Jean Pormanove, has left fans and fellow creators reeling, while investigators continue to search for answers about what happened during his final livestream.
The 46-year-old content creator, who built a following of more than half a million across TikTok, Twitch, and Kick, was live on the night of August 17 when viewers noticed something unsettling. Graven could be seen lying down during the stream, but then he suddenly slumped forward in an awkward position. The stream abruptly cut off moments later.
Clips of the moment have gone viral online, but many have urged fans not to share the footage. Influencer Naruto, among others, called on supporters to respect Graven’s memory and focus instead on the joy he brought through his content.
Authorities have confirmed that Graven died at a residence in Contes, near Nice, and an autopsy has since ruled out external trauma. Prosecutor Damien Martinelli stated that no injuries or burns were found, only minor bruises and healed marks, adding that the likely causes of death were “medical and/or toxicological.” Further testing is underway, with early indications pointing toward a possible heart condition and existing thyroid treatment.
French government minister Clara Chappaz described the news as an “absolute horror”, confirming that a judicial investigation had been launched. Police have already interviewed individuals who were present at the time of the livestream, and investigators have seized equipment and recordings to better understand the events leading up to Graven’s death.
Kick, the platform where Graven streamed regularly, said it is urgently reviewing the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Meanwhile, local reports suggested the streamer had been struggling with exhaustion and bouts of violence during his broadcasts, raising concerns about the toll that nonstop content creation can take.
