A woman was chopped to death, and her daughter was injured in St Andrew, in what appears to be a domestic violence incident. The attack occurred in Rose Hill on Tuesday. The woman, identified as Sashana Shaw, was discovered with several chop wounds along a riverside.
She was pronounced dead while her daughter was rushed to the local hospital for urgent treatment. It is said that her daughter sustained a serious head wound during the attack and remains hospitalised.
Reports have identified the suspect to be Shaw’s boyfriend, Ricardo ‘Crow’ McCarthy. McCarthy has not been seen since the incident, and police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, based on reports. While investigators have not yet confirmed the motive, early reports suggest the incident may be linked to jealousy and domestic conflict.

The news has since sparked outrage across Jamaica. Graphic video of Shaw’s lifeless body also began circulating online shortly after the incident. Another video is also making the rounds on the internet alongside the graphic footage, showing the suspect recording them lying together while Shaw appears focused on her phone.

The brutal nature of the attack has reignited public conversations around rising violence against women, with many calling for the suspect to be located swiftly. Across social media, Jamaicans are expressing shock, sadness, and growing frustration over yet another case of violence against women.
One commenter wrote, “Our women and children cannot seem to get a break in this country. Let’s pray the child pulls through.” Another added, “Every day so? We are tired!” Many users shared personal grief, with some revealing that they knew the victim personally and had interactions with her.
Calls for justice were dominant under the social media posts about the brutal murder. “No mercy when they find him,” wrote one user. Others pleaded for greater protection for women, urging the public to take signs of obsession and emotional instability seriously.
