A woman sustained serious injuries after being hit by a passing train in Vietnam. The incident unfolded on the morning of May 14 in Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province. Vietnamese local leaders confirmed the accident occurred at around 7:00 a.m. near the railway tracks in Cam Thinh Ward.
According to Nguyen Van Hoa, chairman of the Cam Thinh Ward People’s Committee, the woman was out for her routine morning walk when she attempted to cross the tracks, DTiNews reported. The woman was struck when she made it to the middle of the railway line. The impact from the collision threw her several feet to the side, per the report.
Nearby security video captured the harrowing incident. The footage, which has been circulating online, shows the unidentified woman heading towards the railway. She is wearing an orange top and white shorts. The approaching train can be heard in the audio, but she steps onto the tracks.
Right before she was struck, the driver sounded the horn, seemingly warning her. However, the train collides with her immediately after. The footage captures her body being flung to the side near a pavement.
The video also shows someone rushing to her aid and ends shortly after. DTiNews reported that multiple witnesses came to her assistance after the collision. Residents reportedly took her from the scene and transported her to a nearby hospital for medical care.
A social media post reported that she suffered multiple broken ribs and a bruised liver. According to the report, her injuries are not life-threatening, and she remains in stable condition as she receives care.
“Fortunately, her life is not in danger. She is currently being treated in hospital for multiple injuries,” Chairman Hoa said in a report by DTiNews.
In response to the incident, authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. So far, investigators have confirmed that the train driver followed protocol by sounding the horn multiple times before the impact.
