Just over two months after Shoshana Shaw was chopped to death, her ex-boyfriend has turned himself in. The suspect, 29-year-old Ricardo ‘Crow’ McCarthy, is alleged to have used a machete to murder Shaw and injure her daughter.
On Monday, he was accompanied by a relative when he surrendered at a St Andrew police station. Reports say that McCarthy appeared at the Lawrence Tavern Police Station, and he was apprehended. He was later transferred to the Constant Spring Police Station, where he is currently being held.
His surrender was confirmed by Superintendent Randy Sweeney, Head of the St Andrew North Police Division, who felt pleased about the development. He also urged other civilians to demonstrate the same cooperation as McCarthy’s relatives and come forward with information about wanted criminals, illegal guns, and criminal gangs in their area.
Shoshana Shaw was killed at her Rose Hill residence in St Andrew on October 21, and she was laid to rest on November 30. Meanwhile, his daughter survived the attack after suffering a chop wound to the head. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was treated and released some time after. On December 3, police released a flyer with McCarthy, listing him as wanted in their weekly Wanted Wednesday campaign.

According to reports, McCarthy waited outside Shaw’s two-bedroom concrete home, where she resided with her three children. When she stepped outside, he reportedly launched the attack, chopping her several times with a machete. Shaw sustained cuts to her upper body but managed to run back inside her house
Her daughter heard her yelling for help and came running to her assistance, but McCarthy reportedly swung his weapon at her head, resulting in a head injury. Shaw’s body was moved from her residence and left half-naked along a riverbed, where she was found.
Police say that McCarthy had fled the scene of the incident and has been on the run since the hacking incident. The police are still investigating the incident.
