Jaii Frais and Jahvy Ambassador were both taken to court on Wednesday morning as police pushed to keep them in custody longer. From what has been gathered, this was not a charge hearing yet. Instead, it was a move by investigators to legally extend the time they can hold and question them.
Under Jamaican law, once the initial detention period runs out, police have to go before a judge if they want more time, and in this case, the Kingston and St Andrew Parish court approved both requests. So for now, Jaii Frais and Jahvy remain behind bars, but not charged.
Jaii Frais, legally named Jhaedee Richards, will be questioned again today about the altercation at the Big Wall Revolution event Sunday night. Jahvy, born Jahvel Morrison, will also face more questioning. While Jaii Frais has retained the services of renowned attorney Isat Buchanan, King’s Counsel Peter Champagnie has stepped in as Jahvy Ambassador’s attorney.
Champagnie has already pushed back against what he calls speculation running wild across social media. According to Champagnie, his client is confident that once everything is properly investigated, he will be cleared.
The incident that triggered all of this unfolded Sunday night at the Big Wall Revolution event at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre. Reports say an altercation broke out involving members of an entertainer 450’s circle. Shots were fired, and three men ended up injured, including Jaii Frais himself.
He was treated for a gunshot wound before being taken into custody. Since then, police have confirmed that two other men are also being held. One of them is Jahvy, while the identity of the third individual has not been released.
Jaii Frais Jahvy is accused of striking Jaii Frais during the confrontation and allegedly opening fire at him. Reports claim that the police have recovered a gun that was brandished by Jahvy during the altercation, and another was fired by Jaii Frais after he allegedly disarmed a man.
