Lifestyle influencer Ashlee Jenae was found dead inside her hotel villa while on a birthday trip with her fiancé in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Ashlee, whose real name is Ashly Robinson, had travelled to the island to celebrate her 31st birthday with fiancé Joe McCann.
Ashley got engaged during the trip when McCann proposed during a safari. Ashlee posted the video of the proposal on April 3, just days before her death.
On April 5, her birthday, she made her final social media post. The post features a photo slide of her feeding a giraffe while near rose petals arranged to spell out “HBD Ashlee.” In the caption, she wrote, “Chapter 31 and I’m exactly where I need to be.”
Ashlee was found unconscious at Zuri Zanzibar, the luxury hotel where she was staying, and died just a few days later. Her family confirmed her passing in a statement released on April 12, describing it as their “worst nightmare.” According to her family, Ashlee was discovered unresponsive inside her private villa on April 9. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on April 10.
Her relatives have also described her passing as suspicious. Based on reports, McCann claims Ashlee hung herself. However, her family rejected that claim, saying Ashlee would never take her own life. They are demanding answers and confirmed that authorities in Zanzibar have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. They say they are working closely with officials.
Additional information emerging from the police indicates that Ashlee and her fiancé had an altercation prior to her death. It is reported that hotel staff intervened during the incident and separated the couple into different rooms. Authorities were also alerted by hotel staff over concerns about Ashlee’s well-being.
Meanwhile, police are theorising that her death may have been self-inflicted. However, no official cause of death has been confirmed.
