Two students suffered stab wounds when a brawl broke out at the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre on Tuesday afternoon. One of the injured, a 14-year-old, was reportedly hospitalised up to Wednesday, according to a report.
Reports indicate that the fight involved only students from at least two different schools. It occurred around 2:10 p.m. when a group of schoolers gathered at the busy transportation hub. A dispute spiralled into violence, leading to police presence at the scene. Officers carried away some of the students involved, and the injured were taken to the hospital.
Reports indicate one of the students was treated and released. The other was hospitalised in critical condition.
While official details surrounding the cause of the dispute remain limited, several individuals claiming to have been present shared allegations online describing how the incident may have started.
One commenter alleged that the injured student attends Calabar High School and was involved in a clash with another student, believed to be from St George’s College. Authorities have not confirmed this claim.
Another commenter alleged that tensions began when a student reportedly removed a weapon from his bag, sparking panic among those gathered. “Was there, people were running all over. One of the schoolboys draws a cutlass out of his bag, and it starts there,” the individual claimed.
Someone else suggested the altercation may have involved an attempted robbery, alleging that multiple students confronted another boy prior to the violence. The commenter claimed that “all six of them” had tried to rob the student before the situation spiralled out of control. These claims, however, have not been confirmed by authorities.
Additional remarks circulating on social media speculated about the presence of concealed weapons among students frequenting the transport centre, with one commenter alleging that weapons are sometimes hidden off school compounds to avoid detection during searches.
Despite the volume of online commentary, police have not publicly verified these accounts. The incident has renewed concerns among parents and commuters about safety at the transport hub, which serves as a major after-school gathering point for students from multiple institutions across Kingston.
