The custody battle between Halle Bailey and DDG has sent the internet into a frenzy after alarming allegations of Bailey threatening suicide surfaced. These claims were made by DDG as he attempted to restrict Bailey’s movement with their son by filing an emergency motion. The filing sought to prohibit her from travelling to another country with their son, Halo.
Reports say a judge reportedly rejected DDG’s motion, clearing the way for the singer and actress to fly abroad with her 16-month-old son. Bailey is scheduled to begin shooting in Italy this week and argued that leaving Halo behind was not an option.
In court filings, she explained that she is contractually required to be on set from June 7 to August 4. Bailey emphasised the importance of fulfilling her contractual agreement, citing her acting career as her only source of income and as vital to supporting both herself and Halo.
She also stated that DDG, real name Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., has not provided consistent financial support since their son was born. She emphasised that despite her repeated attempts to coordinate supervised visits since the temporary restraining order was issued, DDG and his legal team had shown no interest in engaging or responding until the last minute.
In DDG’s filing, he claimed Bailey was psychologically unwell, indicating that it was not safe for her or their son. DDG raised concerns about her mental health and referenced past incidents, including one occasion when she allegedly left home with his gun while pregnant.
His filing included alarming messages of self-harm that she allegedly sent during a period of severe postpartum depression. He accused Bailey of previously trying to terminate the pregnancy without informing him.
Bailey responded by calling his motion a tactic to retaliate and discredit her. She stated that DDG was aware of her travel plans for months but waited until the last minute to take legal action. According to Halle, the motion was meant to humiliate her and cause unnecessary stress.
Bailey also cited her past struggles with postpartum depression but said that she sought professional help and remains fully capable of caring for their son. She further argued that DDG’s behaviour, including public online statements and associations with people she described as “aggressive and angry”, makes him an unsafe primary carer.
As part of her response, Bailey is now asking the court to bar DDG and his associates from publicly discussing her, their son, or the case on social media.
