Rapper Cardi B is facing a lawsuit for allegedly striking a woman with a microphone during an event in Las Vegas. The alleged assault occurred at a day rave in 2023 when Cardi was performing in the sweltering heat. To combat the heat, Cardi urged the patrons at Drai’s Beachclub to splash her with water, which excited the audience.
However, it was no fun for the anonymous woman who filed the lawsuit, claiming she was struck with the microphone after doing what the Bodak Yellow hitmaker requested.
The moment went viral on social media with videos showing Cardi making the request and the crowd reacting with splashes of water. Among the audience, a woman’s hand raises with a cup, and the individual throws her drink at Cardi. The rapper, visibly upset, reacted by throwing her microphone into the audience.
In one of the videos, Cardi can be seen telling her fans not to throw the water in her face and turns her butt to the audience for them to splash her body instead. While it is unclear if the drink went in her face, it appears that the drink contained ice. She was also moving around the stage as an individual threw the drink. Cardi B did not speak on the matter to explain why she reacted negatively to that particular drink, but she may now have a few words to say.
The lawsuit is filed under the alias “Jane Doe,” and she is suing Cardi for a number of things, including assault, battery, and negligence. The lawsuit also mentions that the plaintiff experienced “exacerbated emotional distress” after the microphone involved in the incident was sold for US$99,000, not long after the incident.
This followed a brief investigation by police surrounding the incident, but Cardi B was ultimately not charged for what happened at the event. Jane Doe’s legal representation, Cierra N. Norris, is expected to speak at a press conference today.
At the time, the money made from the event, according to TMZ, was being donated to the charities, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the local Vegas charity Friendship Circle Las Vegas.
