A 13-year-old boy is suspected of having taken his life after being repeatedly disciplined for returning home from school late. The deceased, Twain Skyers, was dead at his Lilliput home in St James on Thursday, sparking an investigation. Authorities shared that his body was hanging from the shower with an electrical cord wrapped around his neck, leading them to believe that his death may have been a suicide.
Earlier that day, Twain was confronted by his mother for returning home late from school. Twain attended Hopewell High School in Hanover, and his mother repeatedly warned him to come home before it got late. His mother had reportedly beaten him on multiple occasions for arriving home late after school dismissed.
On Thursday, Twain allegedly arrived home sometime after 6 p.m., leading his mother to discipline him, per reports. According to reports, the mother could not find her son later that night when she searched for him. After searching the house, the concerned woman reportedly went to search the neighbourhood and had no luck.
Upon coming back, she found the bathroom door locked. She managed to force the door open with the help of relatives and tragically discovered Twain Skyers’ lifeless body.
The woman saw the teen hanging by a cord from the shower. The teen was swiftly taken down and rushed to the hospital by relatives. The reports say Cornwall Regional Hospital confirmed he was dead.
Police sources have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and officers are examining the events leading up to the tragedy. While the death is being treated as a suspected suicide, authorities are continuing to gather information, which will include interviewing family members and witnesses to better understand what happened.
The community has been left in shock as residents struggle to come to terms with how a routine disciplinary action may have preceded such a tragic outcome.
