A female hospital attendant has been hit with criminal charges for a fire at a residence in Hanvannah Heights in Clarendon. The accused, 54-year-old Jennifer Bachan, is facing arson and burglary charges in connection with an incident that occurred on Friday, December 12.
Bachan, otherwise known as Sandra, is employed at a hospital in Christiana, Manchester. Prior to the fire, the hospital attendant suffered a broken leg. According to reports from the May Pen police, the arson is directly linked to the incident in which her leg was broken by a man.
Reports say that Bachan and the man had a dispute in August 2025. During the altercation, it became physical, and the man allegedly broke Bachan’s left foot. The matter was reported to the police at the time, leading to the man’s arrest and subsequent charges.
Months later, Bachan reportedly started a fire at the man’s house. Police say that on December 12, the man left his home for some time. While he was away, Bachan went to the residence and entered it by using a key she seemingly had in her possession. She went inside his bedroom, which is where she reportedly started the fire. Police say the mattress was set ablaze, and then Bachan fled the premises.
She reportedly ran into the street, where she was seen by neighbours. Residents also saw the smoke coming from the house, which is when they alerted the authorities. Firefighters and police responded to the scene and carried out a cool-down procedure to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and posed no further threat. The police were told by residents that they saw Bachan run out of the house. She was immediately apprehended at the scene and taken into custody on reasonable suspicion.
Following her arrest, Bachan was questioned by police. After a formal question-and-answer session, she was charged with arson and burglary in relation to the incident. Bachan’s court date is currently being finalised.
The details surrounding the relationship between the two individuals have not been fully outlined.
