The two Jamaica College students seen striking a fellow schoolboy in a widely circulated video are now facing serious consequences. Both school officials and law enforcement are moving swiftly to address the incident.
While about seven boys were connected to the altercation, only two were captured actively assaulting the victim. The main aggressor, who was seen repeatedly slapping the student in the face, has since been taken into police custody. His accomplice, who is wielding a belt and striking the victim, is now facing expulsion from the institution.
In response, JC released a statement explaining that on Saturday, April 18, the institution learned about the video. It has since launched an internal investigation into the incident. In a statement issued by Principal Wayne Robinson, the school described the incident as “disturbing” and stressed that it is being treated as an “urgent and serious” matter.

Education officials have also taken note of the situation. The Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information has condemned the behaviour captured in the video, reiterating that violence and bullying have no place in schools. The ministry confirmed that specialised teams have been deployed to assist with the investigation and provide support where necessary.
In the video, about three boys are circling two boys who are beating a third student. The altercation was caused by money that was owed by the victim. The boys demand to know when the victim will repay what has been owed for some time. Based on the context, it appears that the person who should have received the money was not present at the time of the incident, but the students were acting on his behalf.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among members of the public, with renewed calls for stronger measures to address bullying and student violence within schools.
