Miss Universe Jamaica took a shocking fall off the stage on Wednesday in Thailand. The pageant contestant, Dr Gabrielle Henry, was strutting her stuff during the evening gown segment when she took a tumble. The preliminary competition came to an abrupt halt as emergency responders rushed onto the stage and carefully wheeled her away on a stretcher.
The moment was especially jarring because Henry had been moving confidently across the stage, fully in her element, when she suddenly disappeared over the edge. A video of the incident shows her mid-stride in a sparkling gown before the unexpected drop. Many online have suggested there may have been a hole on the stage, an explanation that seems plausible given how surprised she appeared.
Despite the frightening scene, the Miss Universe Jamaica Organisation reassured the public that Dr Henry was taken to Paolo Rangsit Hospital. The statement released by the organisation said that doctors have already determined she had no life-threatening injuries. The medical staff are continuing tests to support her full recovery.
National co-directors Mark McDermoth and Karl Williams expressed gratitude for the support pouring in, asking everyone to “stay upbeat, lift her in prayer, and send positive thoughts as she receives the necessary medical care”.
Just days earlier, Dr Henry had shared how much she was enjoying her time in Thailand. Speaking with The Gleaner, she described the experience as “remarkable”, noting how meaningful it felt to be among 120 delegates embracing Thai culture and hospitality.
She spoke warmly of the country’s welcoming nature, saying its people “love to smile, just as I do,” and highlighted the strong sense of sisterhood she had built with fellow contestants. The Miss Universe Finals will be at the Impact Challenger Hall in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, on Friday, November 21.
Her fall was not the only mishap on the Miss Universe stage this week. Miss Great Britain also slipped during the National Costume round, though she quickly regained her footing.
