A man accused of stabbing a woman to death was later fatally shot by police during an alleged confrontation. The killings transpired hours apart on Wednesday, beginning in downtown Kingston.
The first altercation occurred about 6:15 p.m. along Love Lane. It involved victim Katherine Wallace, 50, and attacker Davar Dacres. Footage from a nearby surveillance camera has since gone viral, showing several people along the roadway while Dacres, who also goes by Davy, and Wallace, otherwise called Kathy, argue. A report say the dispute stemmed from an issue regarding ice.
In the video, which is just under 4 minutes long, onlookers attempt to restore peace by stirring Dacres away from Wallace, but he appears persistent. Eventually, he can be seen shoving Wallace in the head, prompting her to retaliate. Afterwards, he seemingly withdraws a weapon and lounges at her.

Bystanders can be seen struggling to restrain him until he breaks free and attacks her, seemingly inflicting stab wounds in her upper body. She later collapses, and onlookers rush to her aid. She was removed from the scene, placed in the back of a vehicle and transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
After the stabbing, Dacres was restrained again by an onlooker, but amid the visible distress of those helping and watching, he left the scene. Police began a search for the attacker and later found him that night.

Officers found him around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hanover and Beeston Streets. The encounter turned deadly when Dacres allegedly lunged at the police with a ratchet knife. Reports say he shouted, “Mi nah go nuh jail” when he attacked the lawmen. In response, the police opened fire, striking him. Dacres, who is from a King Street address, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Two investigations have since been launched into both incidents. The stabbing is being probed by the Central Kingston Police. Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding the fatal police shooting are now being reviewed by the Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM).
